This is the very first product from our new Varangian Outfitters brand. We've been making Kootamo gloves for over eight years now. During that time, we've produced thousands of pairs of leather gloves for bushcraft, outdoor adventures, knife work, axe work, and everything else that Mökkimies has become known for over the years. But over time, we've also received different kinds of requests and ideas. Could we make an extremely lightweight shooting and tactical glove? One where maximum durability isn't the main goal, but instead focuses on feel, dexterity, mobility, and comfort? Well, here it is.

We've also found ourselves getting more involved in reservist activities, shooting sports, and similar hobbies over the last few years. Maybe a little late and a little older than most, but better late than never. We've sold various protective gloves from different brands for years, tested them, used them, and honestly, there hasn't been anything fundamentally wrong with them. However, many gloves are still a compromise when it comes to weapon handling and other tasks that require precision. The purpose of these new Varangian gloves is not to be a heavy-duty work glove. They're designed to be an extremely dexterous protective glove with excellent tactile feel for situations where precision and fine motor skills matter.

The Smooth Operator Gloves were designed around one simple idea: provide as much tactile feedback, precision, and control as possible when your hands need to perform detailed tasks while still being protected. The lightweight construction, slim profile, and carefully selected materials make them an excellent choice for the shooting range, tactical training, professional use, airsoft, range days, or general gear handling.

As little glove as possible

The primary goal behind Smooth Operator Gloves was simple: they should feel as little like gloves as possible. The thin construction, flexible materials, and soft leather palm create a very natural feel in hand. Whether you're operating a trigger, handling magazines, adjusting a radio, opening zippers, reaching into pockets, or grabbing your car keys, you still retain a surprising amount of dexterity and control. If it's even possible to make a glove feel truly precise, these get pretty close.

Premium Aniline goat skin

The palm is made from premium-grade aniline goat skin. In practical terms, this means soft leather that naturally conforms to your hand while maintaining excellent grip and tactile feel. Goat leather has long been a popular choice for shooting and tactical gloves because it offers an excellent balance between comfort, durability, and dexterity. Grip comes from the leather itself - not from rubber coatings, printed patterns, or other gimmicks.

Pull them on and get to work

There are no hook-and-loop straps, buckles, or unnecessary adjustment systems. Just pull them on and get going. The stretch Lycra material used on the back of the hand allows the glove to fit snugly while remaining comfortable. The material stretches naturally and adapts exceptionally well to a wide variety of hand shapes.

If it's possible to create a truly precise glove, we've pushed that idea about as far as realistically possible.
