Product info
Kootamo Heritage Black are black, unlined leather gloves designed for outdoor activities, bushcraft and a wide range of work and outdoor tasks. Made from durable cowhide leather, they protect your hands from abrasion while providing a good feel for handling tools. The gloves feature a cut based on the popular Kootamo Brown model, with external seams for improved comfort. The black Heritage gloves also bring back one of Kootamo's original products. Around 8–9 years ago, the brand's very first products were yellow and black leather gloves. Now, the classic black colour returns with an updated construction developed through years of product refinement.
External seams and the Brown model cut
The construction of the Heritage Black gloves is based on the familiar pattern of the Kootamo Brown leather gloves. The Brown model was selected as the Editor's choice in Retki magazine's bushcraft glove test in issue 3/2026, receiving particular praise for its fit, dexterity and practical construction.
On the Heritage Black gloves, the finger seams are positioned on the outside. This reduces the pressure that internal seams can place against the fingers, making the gloves comfortable even during extended periods of work. The leather is approximately the same thickness as in the Brown model, giving the gloves a sturdy feel while maintaining good dexterity and tactile sensitivity.
Compared to the Brown model, the Heritage gloves have a lighter oil treatment. The leather gradually moulds to the shape of your hands with use, and its flexibility and moisture resistance can be maintained with suitable leather care products.
Black leather gloves for outdoor activities, cabin life and work
Heritage Black gloves are suitable for situations where both hand protection and sufficient dexterity are needed. Handling firewood, using a folding saw, carving with a knife and setting up camp are more comfortable when wearing sturdy leather gloves. The durable cowhide protects your hands against rough surfaces and abrasion caused by everyday work.
The understated black appearance also makes these gloves a natural choice for everyday work tasks and general outdoor use. The unlined construction provides a good feel for the objects you handle and is particularly suitable from spring through autumn. Heritage Black gloves are not dedicated winter gloves, but they can also be worn in colder weather with thin liner gloves underneath. Remember to allow enough extra room for the liners when choosing your size.
A metal eyelet on the short cuff allows the gloves to be hung on a nail to dry. The eyelet also makes it possible to carry the gloves attached to a backpack or belt with a carabiner, keeping them close at hand and easily accessible.
Choosing the right size and caring for your leather gloves
Kootamo Heritage Black gloves follow the same sizing as the original Kootamo Brown leather gloves. Measure the circumference of your palm just below the knuckles, excluding your thumb, and choose your size according to the size chart. If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size. The leather will stretch slightly and adapt to your hands with use.
Leather gloves stay in good condition when regularly treated with leather balm or wax. Proper care helps keep the leather soft and flexible while improving its resistance to moisture. Wet gloves should be dried at room temperature, avoiding direct heat that could dry out the leather. If deciding between two sizes because your hand measures near both, choose smaller size.
