Syttis Fire Starter Ball

Syttis is a Finnish firelighter with a history stretching back to the turn of the millennium. Born in North Karelia, the product became particularly well known through Tuupovaara, where Syttis firelighters were manufactured for many years by Idän Valo Oy. Over time, this Finnish firelighter found its way into cottages, saunas and wood-heated homes, as well as into the gear of hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

After Idän Valo Oy ceased operations, the Syttis story gained a new chapter in 2026. The traditional Finnish product remained in production, with manufacturing moving to Kitee in North Karelia. The basic idea is still exactly the same: a simple and effective firelighter designed to get a fire going reliably.

Syttis is made from wood-based raw material and paraffin. The firelighter burns for a long time, giving the flame enough time to properly ignite the firewood. This makes it an excellent choice for lighting fireplaces, wood-burning sauna stoves, baking ovens, campfires, grills and wood-heated hot tubs. Thanks to its compact size, Syttis is also easy to keep at a cottage, in a car or packed with outdoor gear.

Syttis is a good example of a simple Finnish utility product that has remained in use for more than two decades. The manufacturer and place of production may have changed over the years, but the original idea remains the same: when you need to get a fire started easily and reliably, Syttis does exactly what it is supposed to do.
