This is where it begins. Varangian Outfitters may be a new brand, but making gloves is nothing new to us. We've been producing Kootamo gloves for over eight years, and during that time thousands of pairs have found their way onto hiking trips, into forests, cabins, around campfires, and all kinds of work projects. But over the years we've also discovered another world. Shooting ranges, reservist activities, and all kinds of situations where your hands need to work quickly and precisely without your gloves getting in the way. That idea became the first glove model from Varangian Outfitters. Smooth Operator.

Sometimes less is more they say. Many tactical gloves focus heavily on protection. And that's completely understandable. But at the same time, gloves often end up with more material, more padding, and more features that reduce tactile feel and dexterity. With the Smooth Operator, we made a conscious decision to go in the opposite direction.

The goal was to build a glove that feels as natural as possible on your hand while maintaining excellent feedback and control over whatever you're handling. Whether it's a trigger, a radio, a zipper, a pocket, a tool, or other equipment, everything should still feel the way it's supposed to feel.

Soft premium Aniline goat skin

For the palm, we selected premium-grade aniline goat skin. Goat leather offers an excellent balance of grip, comfort, and mobility. It conforms naturally to the hand and maintains a natural feel without bulky reinforcements or heavy coatings. The goal was simple: create a glove that allows your hands to function as naturally as possible.

Quick to put on, easy to use

There are no hook-and-loop straps and no unnecessary adjustment systems. Just pull them on and get back to work. The flexible Lycra back panel helps the glove adapt to different hand shapes while maintaining a comfortable fit without feeling restrictive. Simple designs often work best. The gloves also feature a hanging loop, allowing you to clip them to a carabiner or hang them from your gear when they're not needed.

How to choose the right size

Open your hand naturally. Measure the circumference of your palm just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Compare the measurement to the size chart.

If you're between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size.
