Product info
The NorTent Mjodhall 16 is a basecamp giant – a Viking-hall-sized shelter for expeditions that require a tent big enough for the entire group to sleep under one roof. Mjodhall 16 is massive yet manageable, a true “cabin in a backpack.” It provides protection for up to 16 people, their gear, and a stove. Eight thick aluminium poles form a strong, fully freestanding frame, making the Mjodhall stormproof and capable of handling even the harshest winds and heavy snow loads.Inspired by the great halls of Viking kings – the safest places in the village – the Mjodhall is a modern version of that sanctuary: secure, warm, and communal, where the expedition can rest, plan, and spend time together regardless of the weather. Built for demanding conditions, this is a true four-season tent. Its design and numerous guy-out points keep it stable in all environments. Storm flaps running around the entire tent allow you to weigh it down with snow, sand, or stones, while 18 Dyneema® guy lines add stability when the conditions turn severe. Despite its size, it can be pitched quickly, even by one person, and the modular packing system makes it easy to distribute the load among the group.
Standing 239 cm tall with a massive 7 × 4.3 m footprint, the Mjodhall easily accommodates 16 people sleeping and moving about. An optional inner tent provides extra warmth and integrated mosquito nets keep bugs out. Backpacks, equipment, drying lines, and lanterns all fit inside with room to spare. Four large entrances improve access and give flexibility in use.
Stove-ready – warmth and comfort for the whole group:
The Mjodhall is designed for use with a stove. The stove transforms this enormous tent into a cozy basecamp, capable of raising the temperature by 20–30 °C even while icy storms rage outside. The warmth is not just comfort – it dries gear, improves air quality, and creates a welcoming communal atmosphere.
Ventilation and condensation control:
In a tent this size, airflow is crucial. The Mjodhall features six vents: two large upper vents release moisture, while four smaller lower vents bring in fresh air. This ensures efficient circulation and plenty of oxygen when using a stove.
Condensation is controlled in three ways:
- Heating – warm air binds moisture.
- Inner tent – keeps the sleeping area dry even if condensation forms on the fly.
- Ventilation – directs moist air efficiently out of the tent.
The fabric is 100% waterproof, but like all silnylon tents, the seams are not factory sealed. A one-time silicone seam sealing is recommended to make the tent fully waterproof and far more durable than PU seam taping.
Pitching and maintenance:
Silnylon is a “living” material – it stretches and contracts with temperature and humidity. For this reason, fabric tension should be adjusted during the day:
- Do not leave the fabric drum-tight.
- Loosen or tighten as conditions change.
- Ensure all pole sections are fully connected.
The NorTent Mjodhall 16 – a Viking hall in the wilderness. Designed for large groups, expeditions, and basecamps where the weather is not an obstacle, but part of the adventure.
