Product info
Nortent Varde 2 is a two-person tent for hikers and adventurers who don’t want to plan their route around the weather forecast. It is designed for demanding conditions, open mountain terrain, wilderness and longer trips where a tent needs to offer above all reliability, wind resistance and practical functionality. The streamlined design of the Varde 2 cuts efficiently through the wind while still providing a surprisingly generous amount of usable space for two people. Two spacious vestibules, a well-ventilated inner tent and the option to reinforce the structure with a double-pole setup make it a tent you can rely on even when conditions change during the trip.
Varde 2 is a great choice if you:
- hike year-round and need a proper 4-season tent
- travel in the mountains, open highlands or other exposed and windy areas
- want more protection than a lightweight summer tent can provide
- need proper gear storage and cooking space for two people
- appreciate good ventilation and the ability to adjust how open or enclosed the tent is depending on the weather
- want the option to use a double-pole setup for more demanding conditions
- don’t want your tent to force you to stay indoors when the weather is good.
- Built for wind and demanding use
The positioning of the guylines is also part of the overall design. The attachment points are arranged so that wind loads are transferred as efficiently as possible to the poles instead of placing all the strain directly on the lightweight flysheet fabric. In practice: when the wind picks up and the tent fabric really starts taking a beating, the Varde 2 is designed to handle the load rather than simply look good in calm weather.
Silnylon flysheet – protection without unnecessary weight
The flysheet is made from 30D Ripstop silnylon with a 3000 mm hydrostatic head. The floor uses even more robust 70D nylon with a 10,000 mm hydrostatic head. The construction combines a compact packed size, reasonable weight and durability designed for demanding use. The minimum weight of the Varde 2 is 3.9 kg, while the total weight with 20 aluminium stakes is approximately 4.2 kg.
Ventilation that works in real-world conditions
Good waterproofing also means that ventilation needs to be taken seriously. The breathing and body heat of the occupants produce moisture, which can condense on the inside of the flysheet if there is not enough airflow.
There are four high-level vents that allow warm and humid air to escape. In addition, the lower sections of the entrances can be opened, creating additional low-level intake points. The ventilation openings also act as protective covers above the entrances, allowing the doors to remain partially open even in wet weather. You control how much fresh air comes in. Open the tent wide on a hot night, close it down more in cooler conditions, or adjust the ventilation to suit the weather when rain is coming in.
Two vestibules – more than just a place to sleep
The Varde 2 has two spacious vestibules, so the backpacks, boots and other equipment of two people don’t have to take up space inside the sleeping area. Having a vestibule on each side also makes it much easier to prepare food while staying protected from the weather. Each side provides its own usable space, so you don’t have to spread your entire gear setup around the campsite. When it’s raining and windy outside, you’ll quickly appreciate the extra space.
A spacious inner tent for two
The inner tent is designed for proper two-person use – not simply to squeeze two people inside. It can accommodate, for example, two 198 × 68 cm Torv 7 sleeping pads, while still leaving space around them for clothing and smaller pieces of gear. In cold weather, the doors can be closed tightly to retain warmth. In warmer conditions, they can be opened wide to maximize airflow, while the full-coverage mosquito mesh keeps insects outside. The inner tent also includes several storage options for small essentials that otherwise seem to disappear just when you need them.
Open up the tent and let the landscape in
The Varde 2 isn’t only at its best when the weather is bad. In good weather, both sides of the tent can be opened wide, creating an open and airy campsite. When conditions change, the openings can be partially or completely closed. One particularly useful feature is the ability to open the full side panels. When opened, they form protective overhead canopies on both sides of the tent, providing a sheltered place to sit, cook or simply enjoy the surrounding landscape. You get protection from the elements when you need it – but the tent doesn’t have to feel like a closed box when the weather outside is beautiful.
Double poles – extra strength when you need it
The Varde 2 is also designed for double-poling, allowing the tent to be equipped with two sets of poles. With a single pole setup, the Varde 2 is fully capable and designed for demanding outdoor use. When strong winds, heavy snow or a long trip with uncertain conditions are on the cards, adding a second set of poles increases the stiffness of the structure and provides an extra level of security. Instead of traditional pole sleeves, the construction is designed so that additional poles can be installed quickly and efficiently, even with cold hands. Why is this useful? You don’t have to carry additional structural components on every trip. Use the Varde 2 normally and bring the double-pole setup when conditions actually call for it.
Fast pitching
Although the Varde 2 is designed for demanding conditions, pitching it doesn’t have to be unnecessarily complicated. Once you are familiar with the tent, you can have your camp set up in around 5–6 minutes. This is especially welcome after a long day of hiking, when you want to get your shelter up quickly and move on to drying your gear, preparing food and getting some rest.
Why the Varde 2?
The idea behind the Varde 2 is simple: build a tent strong enough to be used where the weather doesn’t always cooperate. It provides two people with a proper sleeping area, two vestibules, effective adjustable ventilation and plenty of options for opening the tent up to the surrounding landscape. When conditions become more demanding, the reinforced construction, Dyneema guylines and option for double-poling provide additional stability.
