Forest Fundamentals Artisan Fire Mat is a handmade fire-lighting mat crafted from thick waxed leather, designed to make fire-starting more controlled in wet, windy, or uneven terrain.

When preparing tinder directly on the ground, shavings can easily disappear into moss, absorb moisture from below, or scatter in the wind. The leather Fire Mat provides a dry and stable surface for processing, collecting, and igniting tinder with tools such as ferro rods. The tinder can be ignited directly on the mat and then carefully transferred into the main tinder bundle.

The mat is made from approximately 2 mm thick genuine cowhide leather and treated with Martexin Original Wax to improve water resistance and flame resistance. The material can withstand brief contact with flames, but it is not intended for maintaining a fire directly on the mat for extended periods - the ignited material should be transferred into the fire as quickly as possible.

The Fire Mat also works as a knee protector, seat pad, carving surface, protective guard for flint knapping, or a lightweight wind guard for small camping stoves. The rigid leather holds its shape well and can be rolled up and secured with the included 550 Survival Paracord lanyard.
