Forest Fundamentals Oil Insert transforms the classic UCO Original Candle Lantern into an oil-powered lantern. The result is a brighter flame, longer burn time, and significantly lower running costs compared to traditional candles. Forest Fundamentals developed the Oil Insert based on years of DIY solutions. The biggest issues with homemade inserts were leaking, poor compatibility, and difficult wick replacement. This model was designed to solve those problems in a fully compatible package.

The oil insert uses lamp oil or paraffin oil and allows you to adjust the flame size by changing the wick length. The oil flame burns brighter than a candle and handles wind more effectively. A fully filled insert holds approximately 25 ml of fuel and provides around 3.5–4 hours of burn time.

The design process focused especially on full compatibility with UCO Original Lanterns. The insert was sized as large as possible for extended burn time while still allowing the lantern to fully close with the insert inside for transport. The original spring also still fits in place, helping keep all components together.

The adjustable wick allows the flame size to be changed even while the insert is inside the lantern. To maintain a lightweight and portable construction, the insert is CNC machined from thin yet durable 6061 aluminium.

The insert is finished with a matte black anodised coating that provides excellent scratch resistance and corrosion protection for outdoor use. All edges and threads are carefully finished without sharp edges. Every insert is inspected before shipping with special attention given to the seals, threads, and overall functionality.

Another major advantage of oil inserts compared to candles is the significantly lower running cost. Lamp oil provides much longer burn times at lower cost compared to replacement candles.
